Garment Construction (Sewing) Short Courses

Not only will you gain the ability to construct beautifully crafted garments, but you’ll also build your own sewing sample file—your personal reference library of fundamental techniques that you can turn to throughout your fashion journey. This course is perfect for aspiring designers looking to dive into the world of garment creation. Get ready to sew, shape, and create with confidence!
Level 1
In this course you will learn to use a sewing machine and overlocker in a safe professional way.
You will build a sewing sample file comprising of a variety of zips, seams, facings, hems, pockets, darts, buttonholes and buttons as well as waistbands and collars which will be used for reference in level 2
You will have a good understanding of professional terminology.
Understanding and executing correct fabric cutting layouts and fabric cutting techniques is an important skill learnt in this course.
At the end you will sew your first full garment and see what you have achieved!
You are now ready to move onto level 2.
Level 2
This course focuses on the construction of everyday items of clothing such as a pair of jeans, a blouse and a top. You will apply the knowledge learned in level 1 to construct beautifully finished garments.
You are now ready to move onto level 3.
Level 3
By applying the knowledge which you would have gained in level 1 & 2 you will learn to sew advanced garments:
Fluid and draped garments such as a chiffon dress.
Corsetry and volume garments such as a wedding dress.
Level 4
By applying the knowledge which you would have gained in level 1 & 2 you will learn:
Sewing tailoring which will equip you with the specialized techniques to create perfectly fitted tailored trousers/skirts and jackets.
DURATION
12 Weeks per level
Short Courses run once a week in the evenings from 17:00pm to 21:00pm, Saturday mornings from 09:00am to 13:00pm or Saturday afternoons from 13:30pm – 17:30pm.

Option A – R5 500 course fee per level
Option B – R1 500 securing deposit and balance of R4 000 course fee per level before the start of the course.
All fees are valid until the 31st October 2025.
Level 1 & 3/4 short courses have an additional payment for equipment of R1 000. Specialist equipment is supplied by Villioti and allow a budget for consumables.
